Who is Roy
Collins? .......
My background is as an engineer in Aircraft and Car design, working on
projects such as Concorde, Airbus, the Jumbo Jet as well as BMW and
Jaguar cars. I am a member of the Institute of Engineering
Designers.
I have been involved in teaching swimming for twenty years and now run
this freelance Swimming Consultancy business. I initiate, plan, design and
tutor
educational and training courses and have contributed to the development
of aspects of
the ASA education programme.
My involvement covers all levels, from novices to senior tutors,
I also
run a complete range of teacher training courses. I am a Principal Tutor for
the ASA with whom I am active as a
Trainer Assessor, Internal Verifier ( Moderator) and Mentor, as well as being involved in
delivering the National Curriculum Training Programme for school and
swimming teachers (TOPs).
I was Assistant Coach at
Kingsdown SC, then Chief Coach for Bristol Henleaze ASC and later became
their Swimming Consultant. Under my guidance as Chief Coach, Bristol Henleaze
developed into a very successful club, with our swimmers breaking numerous
long standing club records, attaining gold
medals at the County finals, reaching the Cotswold ‘A’ Finals for the
first time and gaining promotion in the Speedo league.
I have also been involved
in the setting up, designing and running of
the Quality Assurance of the Bristol City Council’s Aqua-plan
programme. I have given support to the education programmes of local
councils and was member of the City of Bristol Swimming Steering
group..
I am currently the Vice-chair, and was in previous years, the Chair and Treasurer of the Institute
of Swimming Teachers and Coaches (ISTC) Western Region.
I have lectured throughout the country, including
lecturing at the ASA
National Conference for Tutors.
I am an accredited tutor and deliverer of the ASA
National Plan for the teaching of swimming and am a Aquamark Assessor.
